This
module has been designed to equip practitioners with the knowledge,
competencies, experience and confidence to perform the role of an
eTutor in an
online environment. It was taken between the 3rd March and
the 4th April. The subject matter is as follows:
Week
1
- There were three (two individual and
one group) induction activities during the first week. The
tutors
informed the students that the activities were designed to start online
conversation. The rationale was to encourage
participation in a
community, as both an initiator and a responder. The first
activity was
to get students to write about themselves and respond to
others. The
second activity was to create the beginnings of a reflective blog and
the third
activity revolves around looking at some learning models and creating a
document through group work.
Week 2 -
Three activities had to be completed this
week. The first task was to read a given scenario.
There were eight
of them requiring an online tutor to plan and respond.
The second
activity involved an online debate with an invited guest tutor,
Timo Portimojarvi
and the third activity involved two teams debating
online a recent job
advertisement.
Week 3
- There was only one main activity this week. The
group was split
into two groups: Group A and Group B. The author was placed
in Group B
with Robbie, Gavin, Denis, rent and Eidin. The groups were
asked to work
together, via a wiki / chat room / discussion boards, to
collaboratively write
up one topic from a choice of topics. As part of the
collaborative
document, we had to include a section which outlines the purpose of our
resource, identify our target audience and addresses the context in
which the
resource will be implemented. We also had to give a summary
of the
guidelines you came up with for using the wiki. The document
was to have
a word length of around 2000 words and be posted to the discussion
forum by
10.00am on 24th March 2009.
Week 4 - A
Podcast summarising an individual’s experiences of week 3 group
activity was to
be created. The Podcast was approximately five minutes
duration.
All
weekly
activities are both described and
displayed in the Appendices of the Final Reflected Report.
